The miracle of Now

Интересно, считается ли тот самый день, в который родился человек, Днём рождения? Если считается, то у меня вчера был тридцать пятый День рождения. Несмотря на то, что мне исполнилось тридцать четыре года. Правда, я программист, и, возможно, у меня нумерация Дней рождения начинается с нуля, и в таком случае всё в порядке — вчера у меня был таки тридцать четвёртый ДР. Как бы то ни было, День рождения это всегда клёво! Не понимаю людей, которые говорят, что не любят свой ДР и стараются его не отмечать. Чему ещё радоваться в жизни?! Только ДР и НГ.

By the way, the New Year Eve, or rather its magic, exists only in Russia. In USA it's just another holiday, just a regular "day out". There's no feeling of an approaching miracle. In Russia... In Russia it's all different. When clock arms count the last minutes of the year — it's like the final countdown before launch of a space rocket. This point on the arrow of time — zero hours and zero minutes — separates past from the future. When the clock strike midnight, everyone begins to apprehend to some extent the meaning of the power of Now. Another cycle of life ends at this point and at the same time it gives start to a new one. The Earth completes yet one more round on its eternal journey around the Sun. And the Sun, the generous giver of tremendous energy, counts its last photons to emit in the passing year, just to begin a new counting with the last strike of the Courant. Feel the miracle of Now, if you can, at this magic moment when past meets future.
